Goedegebuur certified for COâ‚‚ reduction and compensation in Rotterdam

In October 2024, Goedegebuur was certified for COâ‚‚ reduction and compensation at our production facility in Rotterdam. By adhering to international standards such as ISO14046 and the GHG protocol, we have significantly reduced our COâ‚‚ emissions and compensated for the remaining portion.

Reduction of COâ‚‚ emissions at our production facility in Rotterdam

A better future starts with the choices we make today. For years, we have consciously chosen to use dual-purpose cows. After providing us with dairy products throughout their lives, they also ultimately supply high-quality meat. Due to this dual-use, the COâ‚‚ footprint of dual-purpose cows is at least 60% lower than that of cattle raised purely for meat. Additionally, since 2021, we have reduced 53% of the COâ‚‚ emissions from all our activities at the company level:

- 100% green electricity
- 64% less water consumption
- 27% less gas consumption
- 12% less electricity consumption
- 100% LED lighting

Compensation in collaboration with ClimatePartner

Together with the renowned ClimatePartner, we calculated our total COâ‚‚ emissions according to international standards such as ISO14046 and the GHG protocol. This protocol is seen as the reference standard for measuring greenhouse gases and also serves as the basis for legislation in many countries. Based on these standards, we mapped out how much COâ‚‚ we still emit at our company location after implementing our reduction measures. In 2024, we will compensate for this remainder by planting 1,010 trees in Germany and investing in sustainable cookstoves in India, which helps combat deforestation. In doing so, we are taking the responsibility expected of us. Visit our ClimatePartner page for more information.

Responsible choices for a better future

By 2030, we aim to further improve our sustainability efforts. In the coming years, we will install solar panels, replace our cooling systems, and install white reflective roofs. Equally important is utilizing our influence across the rest of the supply chain. We are currently researching better, more environmentally friendly packaging and engaging in discussions with our supply chain partners to encourage them to take responsibility as well.

Socially involved

At Goedegebuur, we strive to be a socially responsible partner. In addition to our sustainability efforts, we have supported UNICEF projects and local initiatives like the Food Bank since 2014. We also contribute to the Sophia Children's Hospital, where we work to support vulnerable children. We aim to play an active role in improving the world around us, both locally and internationally.

At Goedegebuur, we roll up our sleeves to continuously improve, so we can continue to enjoy responsibly sourced, flavorful, high-quality meat.
